A healthcare professional with decades of experience operating healthcare facilities, Robert Kasirer supports the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute on Aging (IOA), an organization that focuses on education and research related to aging and age-related disease. Robert Kasirer spent six years on the External Advisory Board for the IOA and two years as Chairman of the Board.
Founded in 1979, the IOA strives to improve the quality of life of seniors by improving research methods and clinical care. Currently, more than 300 fellows focus on areas of interest such as healthy aging and disease, as well as public policy, law, and economics related to aging. Specific research projects investigate causes and treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, working in collaboration with other university facilities such as the Penn Udall Center for Parkinson’s Disease Research and the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research.
The IOA hosts several annual events that allow the public to learn more about its innovative research. In September 2014, for example, the Memory Mile Walk and 5K for the IOA will give participants the opportunity to raise research funds for Alzheimer’s and other diseases.
